Guimaras Pabasa sa Nutrisyon Hall of Fame Awardee
Guimaras- Another honor to the province of Guimaras after adjudged as the Hall of Fame awardee in the Pabasa sa Nutrisyon. It is a health program designed to empower women in reducing their families’ vulnerability to malnutrition through adoption of proper nutrition practices and healthy lifestyles. Gov. Felipe Hilan A. Nava personally got the award on July 08, 2010 in Mandaluyong City.
The province is a consistent recipient of the Pabasa sa Nutrition Award for two years by the Philippine Association of Nutrition in Palawan in 2006 and in Cagayan de Oro in 2007 and 2008 in Subic, Zambales and this year, 2010 a Hall Fame Award.
Guimaras ‘Pabasa sa Nutrisyon’ has an innovative approach in strengthening the: home, school, community food production, micronutrient supplementation, food fortification, nutrition education and food assistance. It is among of the sustainable development project by the Provincial Government of Guimaras. It covers 80% of the brgys. Province-wide and it has contributed in the decrease number of barangays with record of malnourished children. At present, 84 of 98 barangays of the province are involved in implementing the program where sitio based classes are being conducted.
It aims to provide families with sustainable knowledge and skills in nutrition that can be handed down to many generations to come. It’s a bible sharing type of activity were target mothers are grouped into 10-12 per class informally discussing health and nutrition using behaviorally designed IEC materials.
Gov. Nava said that this award is one of the fruits to the initiatives of the province in delivering health services for a healthy Guimarasnons.
