Korea extends support for disaster preparedness in Guimaras
Tuesday, November 9th, 2010Korea International Cooperating Agency (KOICA) will implement the Yeosu project in the province of Guimaras in strengthening disaster preparedness, response and risk management with a fund amounting to 170,000 USD for 1 year period.
A Korean representatives, Mr. Shin Dong-Young ,Mr. Kim Young-So, Director Organizing committee for Yeosu Expo and Mr. Kim Sung-Gwi, Director, Korea Maritime Institute arrived in the province today (Nov. 09, 2010) for a Memorandum of Understanding between the province, DENR and the PENRO. This was witnessed by the municipal and barangay officials especially those who will benefit the project.
The project targets to conduct a provincewide assessment of physical, social, environmental and economic vulnerabilities to natural and man-made hazards. They will also develop a comprehensive plan for disaster preparedness, respond and risk management and to develop a project proposal on the implementation of the comprehensive disaster management program of Guimaras.
Gov. Felipe Hilan A. Nava said that the project is beneficial to the province especially in enhancing the disaster preparedness and risk management as it will help the Guimarasnon to identify risk areas. He added that in identifying vulnerable areas the province will be more aware and more prepared from man-made and or natural hazards.
