“Women have equal rights as of men” stresses Hon. Remedios I. Rikken, Chairperson Philippine Commission on Women, the keynote speaker and resource person during the 2016 Gender and Development Summit on March 21, 2016.
Ms. Rikken said that it is their duty to keep updating their tools needed to improved their ways of analysing certain situation about gender development, she also empowered every woman and even young adults to know their rights.
Likewise, she emphasized that housewives should not underestimate their selves and underscored that “housework is work, therefore, housewives should be proud of it”.
The Provincial Gender and Development Focal Point System (PGADFPS) recognizes the vital role of women in nation building as development partners in promoting and advocating gender equality and women empowerment.
Thus, on intensifying this commitment, GAD Summit was held in support to nationwide Women’s Month Celebration and in compliance to Republic Act 6469 declaring the first week of March as Womens Week
Ms. Donna Mae M. Segobre, HRMO III/ GAD Focal Team Head, said that the event was intended to commemorate and give distinction to the nationwide Women’s Month Celebration.
“This activity was participated by multi-sectoral stakeholders from the different women’s groups in the community”, she said.
The participants from the five municipalities were grateful to be part of the said activity wherein they learned and knew their rights and they were able to address their concerns appropriately.
“Ang itinuro sa amin, it is of great help para ma strengthen ang knowledge na andito na sa amin at medyo naging maliwanag kung ano ang right thing na dapat gawin ng mga gender advocate per barangay. With Ms. Rikken’s help and knowledge na na impart sa amin, we hope and pray na sana maging maayos na ang lahat in every barangay yung gender and development program”, said Ms. Lolita G. Garque, SWO 1/GADFPP-LGU Jordan.
PO1 Atlas A. Talaban, Asst. PCR PNCO, Jordan MPS, said that the activity is one way of enlightening men that women have a vital role in a family and even in the community.
“Sa case namon nga mga lalaki, gapasalamat kami nga nagin aware kami bala, nga amo na gali ang obra sang mga babayi”, he said.
