A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by and between the Province of Guimaras, Guimaras State College (GSC), ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. (ALKFI), and Lopez, Inc. was officially sealed yesterday, June 15, 2016, for the establishment of Guimaras Environment and Development Fellowship (GEDF).

Ms. Regina Paz Lopez of ALKFI challenged the provincial officials and stakeholders present to take Guimaras as a model for National Happiness.

“Wala nang mahirap wala nang krimen lahat masaya, lahat nagmamahalan , we will make Guimaras about that”, she said.

The said MOU was signed by Governor Samuel T. Gumarin for the Province of Guimaras, Dr. Rogelio T. Artajo for GSC, Mr. Benjamin R. Lopez, Senior Executive Vice-President from Lopez, Inc., Ms. Regina Paz L. Lopez for ALKFI, and Ms. Johanna Jeraldine D. Santos, Bantay Kalikasan Program Director of ALKFI.

Governor Gumarin is optimistic that the task will be done by providing proper facilities towards becoming the agri-eco tourism capital of the region.

“Kung aton i-handumon tanan nga mangin agri eco-tourism kita sa Region 6, wala sang rason nga indi natun ini mapangitaan sang solusyon nga indi man mawad-an kag indi mawad-an pagkaon kag pangitan-an ang atun pumuluyo” and further emphasized that “we have to make it now”.

GEDF through the MOU likewise seeks to accomplish the aforementioned goals by implementing its project with the following “Pillars of Happiness”: 1) People Development, including care for the child, youth and family; 2) Environmental Stewardship; 3) Access to Health-Natural Remedies; 4) Sustainable livelihood and Food Security; 5) Education and 6) Cultural Preservation.

Dr. Artajo, in support to the fellowship, continues to increase the capability, capacity of GSC for the service of the people of Guimaras.

“We are grateful that GSC is part of this historic undertaking. Our mandates for instruction of research exception services, of course economic enterprise have been credit well because of good strategic planning which would be the part of division of development of Guimaras.”, he said.

Congressman JC Rahman Nava of the Lone District of Guimaras likewise showed his support to the said undertaking

“We really need to support the community and other organizations and of course the academe that we have. And I hope for that with this initiative we can again come up with the new thing for the province of Guimaras, and we have to support the LGUs, the GSC and other academe institution in the province and I am competent that we are trying to work out what we can do to the national government as well”, he emphasized.

On its first phase, the fellowship focuses on the following areas in Guimaras namely, 1) Nueva Valencia (San Roque); 2) Sibunag (Dasal); 3) San Lorenzo (Cabano); and 4) Nueva Valencia (Sta.Ana Poblacion).

Furthermore, the parties aim to gather the main stakeholders, project proponents and implementers of the “Guimaras for Life” Model through the establishment the aforesaid fellowship.
