The project was fully realized through the provincial development fund and the PDAF of the Congressman.

“It is the first LGU in the region to fund this type of project,” said Ms Fe Suelan, Area Program Officer of the Nutrition Center of the Philippines.

She lauded the initiative of the province of Guimaras as hunger mitigating solutions to the island province.

It was noted that the nutrition status of the province of Guimaras in 2007 shows that 21.27% of school children are underweight. The result of this it the low IQ, low learning skills and low academic performance of school children.

The Nutri-pan (Bakery) has become the solution of the provincial government through the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition of which food fortification included in its program impacts. The bakery will be producing pandesal with specific standard of nutritional value to follow from the National Nutrition Council (NNC).
