UNICEF Country Representative Vanessa Tobin assured the province of Guimaras to be their pilot province in their future projects.

Tobin was impressed to the active and aggressive actions of the Local Government Unit in bringing out the Child Friendly initiatives. She lauded the exemplary service in governance as well as the government’s social expenditures for education, health, nutrition and social services and welfare that enormously “gave positive results to children especially in their nutritional status”.

There is a remarkable increase of investment for children in most of the barangays and 58% of the total 97 BCPCs in 2009 are rated ideal while 22% rated mature, next to ideal based on the assessment of the DILG. The province also got the highest rating among the provinces in the region for the level of functionality of the Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC) during the latest assessment of the Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children. Out of the 98 barangays, 47% are child friendly.

Overwhelmed to the results of the CPC 6 in the province, she said the UNICEF is working for the possible CPC 7. She promised to bring this project in Guimaras as soon as it will be made possible.

It was noted that the province received nearly P3.5 million cash and supply assistance from UNICEF in 2009. Tobin vowed to support Guimaras as she quoted one of the governor in California saying, “ I will Come Back.” Tobin visited Guimaras during the Guimaras 18th Foundation Day on May 22, 2010 and turn over the books for day care centers.
