GUIMARAS REMAINS FREE OF BIRD FLU – DA

In a significant boost to the province’s agricultural and poultry sectors, Guimaras remains free of the Avian Influenza (AI) virus following recent testing by the Department of Agriculture’s Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory (RADDL). A total of 284 blood samples were collected from various poultry farms across the province as part of the ongoing surveillance and preventive efforts against bird flu. Laboratory results confirmed that all samples tested negative for the Avian Influenza virus, assuring both local producers and consumers of the continued safety and quality of Guimaras’ poultry products.

WESTERN VISAYAS POSTS 4.3% ECONOMIC GROWTH IN 2024 – PSA

Western Visayas, which is now composed of Panay and Guimaras Islands, posted a 4.3 percent economic growth in 2024. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) Regional Statistical Services Office 6 headed by OIC Regional Director Nelida C. Amolar reported that the economy of Western Visayas grew by 4.3 percent which is valued at Php 641.76 billion during the 2024 report on the economic performance of the region held on April 22, 2025 at Bien Hall, Sam’s 21 Hotel, Iloilo City. The 2024 growth is slower than the 6.8 percent recorded in 2023. The 2024 economic performance of Western Visayas excludes Negros Occidental and Bacolod City following the enactment of Republic Act 12000 or the Negros Island Region Act.

PROVINCIAL COUNCIL FOR THE PROTECTION OF CHILDREN COMMENDS BUENAVISTA FOR TOPPING CHILD-FRIENDLY LOCAL GOVERNANCE AUDIT

The Guimaras Provincial Council for the Protection of Children (PCPC) commended the municipality of Buenavista for its exemplary development initiatives, garnering the highest score of 98% rating in the Child-Friendly Local Governance Audit (CFLGA) in Region 6.

PCPC and the Provincial Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking in Persons and Violence Against Women and Children (PIACAT-VAWC) unanimously approved the resolution commending the Municipality of Buenavista and the other four municipalities for their exemplary performance in the latest CFLGA during the first quarter meeting held on March 21, 2025 at the PDRRMO Conference Room in San Miguel, Jordan. The Municipality of Nueva Valencia garnered 94% rating, Sibunag with 88.23% and Jordan with 87.64%. Meanwhile, the Provincial Government of Guimaras and the Municipal Government of San Lorenzo have appealed the rating for San Lorenzo.

PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT TURNS OVER SMART TV SETS TO PUBLIC SCHOOLS

In a bid to strengthen digital learning, the Provincial Government of Guimaras (PGG) formally turned over SMART TV sets to public schools across the province on April 10, 2025. The ceremonial turnover was held at the Conference Room, Office of the Governor, New Tourism Building, San Miguel, Jordan.

A total of 98 Smart TV sets will be provided to Grade 3 learners in the province. It will be strategically distributed to public schools and learning hubs identified by the Provincial School Board in partnership with the Department of Education-Guimaras.

GUIMARAS MOVES UP IN INCOME CLASSIFICATION

February 17, 2025

The Province of Guimaras moved up the income classification scale, from fourth class to second class province, effective January 1, 2025. The upgrade in income classification is expected to pave the way for more development projects and programs, financial grants and other forms of assistance for Guimaras as well as adjustment of compensation for local government personnel.
