Aliw Awards cites Manggahan Fest, guv

Manggahan Festival of the province of Guimaras once again proved its worth as one of the festivals in the country to watch out for after being nominated for the first time in the 2018 Aliw Awards.

Manggahan was nominated in the Best Festival Practices and Performance category while, Governor Samuel T. Gumarin was nominated as Best Festival Catalyst and Organizer in the ssaid award-giving body.

The annual Aliw Awards was established in 1976 with the aim of recognizing achievements in the live entertainment industry in the country.

Organized by the Aliw Awards Foundation, Inc., this award-giving body is the pioneer in recognizing Filipino talents that excell in theater, opera, dance, live vocal and instrumental shows.

Manggahan Festival which is a celebration of the rich culture of the island province, is now on its 25th year.

The fete reached new milestones as it showcased to the international stage what it got.

For the very first time in 25 years, Guimaras Manggahan Festival performed in the 120th Independence Day Celebration in New York City, United States of America.

The said celebration is one of the grandest events in the US East Coast, gathering 100,000 Filipino and Filipino-Americans.

Considered as one of the trademarks that define Guimaras, Manggahan Festival was also shortlisted as national finalist for the World Costume Festival.

Hubon Mangunguma, the grand champion in the 25th Manggahan Festival, was also hailed as a champion in the Kasadyahan Regional Cultural Competition 2018 that is one of the highlights of the Dinagyang Festival and finished at second place in Aliwan Fiesta 2018 where it goes head to
head with other festivals in the Philippines.

Further, Manggahan Festival is set to wow the international stage for the Philippine Festival in Tokyo, Japan on December 2019.
