GUIMARASNONS BENEFIT FROM FREE LEGAL SERVICES OF USA – COLLEGE OF LAW

The University of San Agustin (USA) – College of Law, through the Augustinian Legal Aide Bureau (ALAB), Sigma Alpha Lex and Bar Reviewer Organization in partnership with the Provincial Government of Guimaras, Office of Congresswoman Ma. Lucille L. Nava and the 10th Sangguniang Panlalawigan provided legal services to the people of the Province of Guimaras on April 14, 2024 through “Istorya Legal: A Legal Aid Program for the Province of Guimaras” at the Provincial Covered Gym, San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.

The activity is part of the University of San Agustin-College of Law community service initiatives that aim to provide legal education and free legal services to the people.

Among the services provided were lectures on VAWC, land titling, child’s rights and Lupon Tagapamayapa; free legal consultation; and free notarial services.

Punong barangays, Sangguniang Kabataan chairpersons, and members of the Integrated Women’s Alliance of Guimaras (IWAG) were among the participants of the whole-day activity.

Judge Elijo Sharon Herrera-Bellones, Presiding Judge of Branch 27, Regional Trial Court in Iloilo City; Atty. Giovanni Alfonso Miraflores from the Register of Deeds; Samantha Grajo and Justin Francis Bionat from the University of San Agustin-College of Law served as the resource speakers.

Meanwhile, alumni of USA-College of Law, Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) – Guimaras and the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) – Guimaras Chapter render free legal consultation services to walk-in clients.

Governor JC Rahman A. Nava conveyed gratitude to the University of San Agustin and its partners for the opportunity given to the people of Guimaras to increase their knowledge about important laws.

“Nabal-an ta guid tanan nga kun gusto naton nga hilway ang aton sosyodad, malinong, matawhay kinahanglan i-garantiya ta guid ang kinamatarong sang aton tagsa-tagsa ka pumuluyo.

Ini nga oportunidad daku nga bagay kay madugangan naman ang aton nga ihibalo para mapatigayon naton ang pag-implementar naton sang nagakaigu nga layi nga masiling naton amo ang naga-govern sang aton sosyodad.

So, nagapasalamat gid kami sa University of San Agustin College of Law nga ginpili nila ang Guimaras nga destinasyon sang outreach program nila,” Governor Nava said.

Vice Governor Atty. John Edward Gando added that the knowledge imparted to the barangay officials from the said forum will be of great help in fulfilling their duties in the barangay.

“Kinahanglan naton ang mga abogado kag abogada, kinahanglan naton ang impormasyon legal bangud isa ini ka pamaagi nga ma-protehiran naton ang aton mga kinamatarong. Madamo kita sang matun-an subong nga aga upod sang aton pinalangga nga mga speakers halin sa VAWC, halin sa katarungang pambarangay and I believe nga this will gonna be a productive and exciting day for all of us. Damo kita makuha especially sa mga bag-uhanon naton nga kapitan nga magamit naton sa aton tag adlaw-adlaw nga pagpangabuhi, magamit naton sa aton constituents, magamit naton sa aton mga barangay,” Vice Governor Gando said.

Sangguniang Panlalawigan Floor Leader Felipe Hilan Nava likewise graced the event with his presence.
