Guimaras eases quarantine rules, border control remains

The Province of Guimaras remains under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) pursuant to the directive of the National Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID).

The five Guimarasnon OFWs who arrived last May 9, 2020 tested negative of COVID-19 based on their RT-PCR test result. The said repatriates are currently under quarantined at a hotel in Iloilo City. Further, one suspected case from the Municipality of Buenavista also tested negative of COVID-19.

The Department of Health reports 264 new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of cases in the country to 11,350 as of May 12, 2020. The number of recovered patients have reached 2,106 while 751 have died.

Of the 21 suspected COVID-19 cases in the Province of Guimaras, 19 have tested negative, two with mild symptoms were not tested and have completed home quarantine. Of the 15 Guimarasnon OFWs repatriated, 2 have tested positive and quarantined at Western Visayas Sanitarium in Iloilo, 13 have tested negative of COVID-19.

The Committee discussed the policies and guidelines to be implemented in the Province of Guimaras after the General Community Quarantine is lifted on May 15, 2020. Also present during the meeting were Congresswoman Ma. Lucille L. Nava, Vice Governor Atty. John Edward G. Gando, the Municipal Mayors, Municipal Vice Mayors, Municipal Health Officers, Guimaras Police Provincial Office OIC Provincial Director Police Col. Pablito B. Asmod Jr., Provincial Health Officer Dr. NL Cathrel Nava, representatives from the different motorbanca associations and representative from the Department of Health.

The Department of Health reports 145 new recoveries bringing the total number of recovered COVID-19 patients to 2,251 as of May 13, 2020. The total number of cases nationwide rose to 11,618 with the addition of 268 new cases today. The death toll now stands at 772.


Gov. Gumarin presided the meeting centered on the establishment of a COVID Wing for DCGNPH and the preparation of the Primary Quarantine Facility for municipalities.

Province of Guimaras participated in the 2nd COVID-19 Virtual Town Hall Meeting of the Task Group on Strategic Communications of the National Inter-Agency Task Force on May 13, 2020.

The resource persons include Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, Assistant Secretary Ramon Cualoping III and Undersecretary George Apacible of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, Department of Social Welfare and Development spokesperson Director Irene Dumlao, Director Beverly Lorraine C. Ho of the Department of Health and Assistant Secretary Dominique Tutay of the Department of Labor of Employment.

Director Dumlao said that the DSWD is waiting for the Executive Order of the President before releasing the second tranche of the Social Amelioration Program as the National IATF has eased quarantine restrictions in most parts of the country.


Provincial Government of Guimaras has facilitated the transport of the three Guimarasnon repatriates.

The Provincial Government of Guimaras has facilitated the transport of the three Guimarasnon repatriates from Iloilo City going to the Province of Guimaras. They will be quarantined in a facility at Barangay Lanipe, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. The three seafarers were part of the second batch of the repatriated OFWs who arrived in Iloilo City last April 29, 2020 and have tested negative of COVID-19.

Western Visayas records two new cases of COVID-19 bringing the total number of cases in the region to 99 as of May 13, 2020. The new cases are repatriated OFWs who are residents of Valladolid, Negros Occidental and Bacolod City. Ten have died while 42 patients have recovered from the disease.

The Municipality of San Lorenzo has distributed the second tranche of relief assistance for its 12 barangays on May 13, 2020.
