Manggahan Fest 2021 Events Cancelled

The Provincial Government of Guimaras has cancelled events that may entail mass gathering for this year’s celebration of Manggahan Festival slated on May 20 to 22.

Citing the increasing number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the province, Governor Samuel T. Gumarin signed Executive Order No. 19 series of 2021 on May 17 prohibiting the conduct of Manggahan Festival events that will attract crowds.

Gumarin explained that the Provincial Government will prioritize the safety of the Guimarasnons and the increasing number of COVID-19 infection in the island can not be undermined.

The Governor likewise cited the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the neighboring provinces in Western Visayas.

“The rising number of COVID-19 cases in Guimaras and in our neighboring provinces is alarming. We can not take for granted the safety of the Guimarasnons and the tourists that will visit the province during the celebration of Manggahan Festival. Kun padayunon gid naton ang iban nga mga aktibidad sa aton selebrasyon, basi mangin rason pa ini nga maglapta pa gid ang virus kag magdamo ang cases naton sa probinsiya kag sa Western Visayas. We can still celebrate Manggahan Festival through our virtual events,” Gumarin stated.

Manggahan Festival 2021 is supposed to showcase a combination of physical and virtual events.

Events that were scrapped include the Agri-Trade Fair, Manggahan Ride, Press Conference, Manggahan by the Beach and the Manggahan Sports Fest.

The Province of Guimaras has registered 24 new cases of COVID-19 on May 16, 2021 alone which brought the total number of confirmed cases in the island to 466 where 49 are still active, 409 have recovered and eight have died from the disease.

Dubbed as the country’s “sweetest festival”, the festivities this year aims to jumpstart the recovery of the island’s tourism industry that was hardly hit by the 2019 Sea Tragedy and the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the time calls for adapting to the new normal, Manggahan Festival 2021 will be celebrated through of virtual events thus; “eManggahan” takes center stage with the theme: “Engage, Enjoy, Experience”.

The virtual celebration aims to engage the Guimarasnons and make them feel the Manggahan vibe even online; giving the spotlight to the island’s sweet mangoes that everyone can still enjoy; and special live, e-games and produced visual presentations that will streamed online so everyone can still experience Manggahan Festival despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Virtual events that will be streamed through the various Manggahan Festival platforms include: Butlak Guimaras Specials mini-documentaries, Mobile Legends tournament, winning videos of the Vlog-Making Contest.

It will be a trip down memory lane as Manggahan Cultural Presentation best performances will be relived through the “Manggahan Cultural Throwback” which will also be streamed online.
