PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT OF GUIMARAS DONATES LEARNING MATERIALS TO DEPED GUIMARAS
The Provincial Government of Guimaras recently handed over learning materials to the Schools Division of Guimaras, in an effort to support education and enhance learning in the province. These materials are aimed at addressing the needs of students and teachers, particularly in areas with limited resources.
Governor JC Rahman A. Nava MD and Congresswoman Ma. Lucille L. Nava MD led the handover ceremony held on September 30, 2024 at the Congressional Hall, Capitol Grounds, San Miguel, Jordan, Guimaras.
The materials were received by OIC Schools Division Superintendent Novelyn M. Vilchez, PhD, CESO VI and other DepEd-Guimaras officials.
A total of 25,320 copies of ABC+ books were printed through the assistance of the Provincial Government which appropriated Php 2.5 million for the printing of 13 titles of early grade reading materials. The books will be used by 12,683 Key Stage 1 (Kindergarten to Grade 3) learners in the province.
Congresswoman Nava also conducted a read-aloud session with selected learners from Cresente P. Chavez Central School during the activity. Fourteen learners received school supplies from Cong. Nava.
Gov. Nava said the initiative is part of the Provincial Government’s ongoing commitment to improving educational access and quality, in partnership with DepEd, to ensure that students receive the necessary tools for learning that is one of the thrusts of his Kabataan FIRST agenda.
“It is an unwritten policy that we have ever since, that we have to maximize government fund as much as possible. For a long time, we really want to see education improve here in Guimaras. I remember the first time I became Governor, the numbers that we have as to participation rate is really down at that time. So, we tried to find ways to increase participation, enrollment in that matter. We started to subsidize all miscellaneous fee before in elementary and High School. At that time, we still have the Boy Scout and the Girl Scout. So, what we did was, the Provincial Government paid for that up until now. Despite being not mandatory, we continue to fund for every child from elementary to High School to be part of Boy Scouts and Girls Scout,” Gov. Nava said.
The project is in collaboration with ABC+: Advancing Basic Education in the Phillipines. ABC+ is a USAID-funded program that aims to improve literacy and numeracy skills among young learners.
The handover underscores the strong collaboration between the Provincial Government and the education sector in Guimaras.
